Preparing the Way of the Lord
Reading: Mark 1:1-3
Key Verse: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way” v 2
Before Jesus began his public ministry of preaching, teaching and healing crowds of people something vitally important had to happen. Horticulture and spirituality both agree that seed flourishes best in ground that is first prepared to receive it. Jesus cousin was called John and he was specially chosen by God to prepare people’s hearts to receive and respond to Jesus message. John himself deliberately lived a simple life and delivered a simple message.
Simply put, John’s message was for people to change their lifestyles from “my way first” to “God’s way first” and to receive the teaching and personal relationship with God that only Jesus offered. Likewise, when Jesus was about to go into various places He sent faithful disciples ahead to prepare people’s hearts to receive Him (Luke 10:1)
Similarly, we have been called to proclaim and explain to others how we can have a new blessed life in relationship with God through a decision to follow Jesus. As we commit our lives to Him, Jesus takes away our guilty past and fills us with hope for the future. The best is yet to come!
Prayer: I have decided to follow Jesus and prepare the way for others to know Him
