DAY 63 OF 366

New Creation not new leaf

Reading: 2 Cor.5:17-21

Key Verse: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” v.17

We look again at yesterdays reading for a SELAH moment of wonder and awe. What is important to note here is the phrase, “new creation”. Many people this January will be looking to “turn over a new leaf”. This is defined as, “start to act or behave in a better or more responsible way”. In other words, people try to stop doing one thing and start doing something different. For some, this type of resolution can produce results. The trouble is for many it does not. You see, the problem is when you turn a new leaf in a book, it may be a new page but it’s the same book! When we try to “act or behave in a better or more responsible way” it’s still the old us trying to do it. This is why “Many people do not have the willpower to make their New Year's resolutions last longer than a week”.

God knows us too well to expect the old us to be “better or more responsible” so He creates us “new in Christ Jesus” (Eph.2:10). Not just a new person subject to the same human frailties but a new supernatural creation with spiritual possibilities!

Prayer: Thank you Lord that I am not turning over a new leaf but living a new life. Hallelujah!
