Solomon’s Temple

Reading: 1 Chron.29:10-20

Key Verse: “All these things have I given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen how willingly your people who are here have given to you.” verse 17

Before Solomon could build the Temple he first needed a blueprint and materials; God gave the blueprint and the people of God gave the raw materials to complete the work of God. Verses 6 to 9 of this chapter record that the people gave, “freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord”. Verse 3 states that David gave vast amounts of his own personal wealth because of his “devotion to the temple of my God”.

The people gave willingly and sacrificially because they understood their contributions would result in a powerful manifestation of the presence and power of God in their midst. Their personal value system was to consider the promotion of God’s glory greater than their possessions of precious metals and expensive jewels. The Temple would establish and extend the influence of the kingdom of God in the world. When the Queen of Sheba visited Jerusalem and, “saw the ... offerings he made at the temple of the Lord, she was overwhelmed” (2 Chron.9:4). 

As we freely and willingly give wholeheartedly to the Lord of our time, our talents and our treasures we pray that our church will be a centre to display and disseminate God’s glory to the world!

Prayer: O God, may the world be overwhelmed with Your presence and power in the midst of Your people
