The Purpose of Scripture
Reading: 2 Tim.3:10-17
Key Verse: “the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim.3:17 NKJV).
We return to the reading of Nov 7th to meditate on another section of the key verse which explains the purpose of scripture. It is not just that a person could be “complete” as a mature individual but that the person could be fully capable of achieving all God asked of them. The Living Bible says, “The whole Bible ... is God’s way of making us well prepared at every point, fully equipped to do good to everyone.” The Bible is not just to be read like a novel but its principles applied to our everyday lives. In some cases this may affect our attitudes in difficult situations or with difficult people.
Often, as we saw yesterday, its principles are to be applied by actually doing good to people. So we may apply the story of the Good Samaritan by practically helping someone in need, especially if they are ignored by others. This may involve apparently trivial and boring tasks such as shopping for the sick. But these things are important because as we give ourselves to these tasks, God is working through us. Remember Jesus, the Master of all, washed the disciples’ dirty feet and became the servant of all (John 13).
Prayer: Thank you Lord that my own spiritual fitness gives me opportunity and resources to share Your love with others in need
