The Devotional to End All DevotionalsSample

To be “justified” is to be declared innocent. Justification is like an acquittal in court. It means that a defendant does not have to face punishment for their crime. Our crime is sin. Our punishment is death, but Jesus took that punishment upon Himself and satisfied God’s requirement that a price be paid for our sin. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, those who belong to him are no longer accountable for their sin and are now able to have the kind of relationship with God that He originally intended.
Justification is not something that a human being can earn, but it is available to everyone who puts their faith in Jesus Christ. It is important to point out that faith doesn’t earn justification, but is simply a way to take hold of the justification that God offers. God even provides the necessary faith, so we have no reason to congratulate ourselves for anything.
