The Devotional to End All Devotionals

DAY 36 OF 40

To be “sanctified” is to be set apart. There are three types of sanctification in the life of a believer. The first is positional sanctification and happens when a person becomes a Christian and takes his/her place, or position, as a child of God. Positional sanctification never changes, even when a believer chooses not to pursue God as they should for a time. Positional sanctification is a work of God alone.

The second type of sanctification is experiential and depends mostly on the amount of effort a believer chooses to put toward his/her own spiritual growth. It is very possible for one believer to have achieved a higher level of experiential sanctification than another.

The third type of sanctification is that which God will complete in each of us when we see Jesus and no longer struggle with the flesh. It is this perfection that we continue to work toward while still living here on earth.

Use one or more of the following methods to study today’s passages as appropriate and helpful: God Follower, Target, or CUT.

Thank God for setting you apart for Himself and for the strength and ability to set yourself apart for Him.
