You Are Courageous

On one occasion, I had a watch commander on my night shift patrol come out to a free-for-all. As a rookie, I made a potentially fatal error and did not remove a suspect from the crowd before questioning or detaining him. Later on, after everything had settled, my lieutenant pulled me aside and sternly reminded me, “Have I not told you in the past to separate them from the crowd? You could’ve gotten yourself killed!” That conversation was followed by some additional firm and animated scolding, which I was fully deserving and thankful for. 

Sometimes our courage comes from moments of error, moments we could learn from, moments we were able to survive and grow from. It is in these lessons that we become stronger and less likely to be discouraged in the fight. There are so many things that you deal with and do not even give a second thought to fear in the moment. Allow your past to become your strength and fuel for your future, not chains that wear you down. You have all you need to prepare you for the fight. 

Heavenly Father, thank you for courage, for strength, and for never abandoning me in the fight. Amen.
