We’ve all seen stories of people who dress in military attire and claim certain achievements and awards, when, in fact, they never served or never earned the awards they claim to have received. Who are we to pretend we are the reason for our own successes? Who are we to pretend we are the sole reason for our own salvation, breakthrough, or miracle? We could not save ourselves! It was by grace, through faith, and not from ourselves. God has equipped us to accomplish every mission He has given us. 

In this world, if a king lays down his life for others, he is immortalized as a hero and legend; if a police officer gives his or her life in the line of duty for others, that officer is a hero forever. We dare not take credit or participate in the victory for which they paid the price. In God’s kingdom, we are the beneficiaries of the sacrifice made by God in sending His Son, Jesus Christ. It is because of His sacrifice that we can experience freedom and abundant life today.

Heavenly Father, if ever I should forget, remind me that in all my doing, I am not my own hero, but you, my Savior, have always been my shield, my protector, and my rescue. Amen.
