The Book Of John In SongSample
John 9
Why do people share their faith? Why don’t they just keep their experiences with Jesus to themselves? These questions find an unexpected answer in John 9. In this fascinating chapter, the blind man learns to see Jesus clearly as he tells the story of his encounter with Jesus over and over.
We begin with the curious incident of Jesus putting mud on this man’s eyes (v. 6). His physical healing is just the beginning of his day; he is in the hot seat again and again. Everyone wants to know what happened to him, so he starts telling his story. The first time he describes his miracle, he talks about Jesus like a stranger (v.11). The second time he tells his story, he sees Jesus more clearly, declaring him a prophet (v.17). By telling his story, his spiritual eyes begin opening more and more. The third time his passion is engaged, and he is ready to stand by his story no matter what (v.31-33). The crowd tossed him out, but God uses even that to open his soul more. Jesus circles back around to see if he wants to know who he is. Now his physical and spiritual eyes are wide open, “Lord, I believe!” (v.38).
PRAYER
Jesus, I have been touched by you. Help me tell my story, and as I talk about you, open my eyes to how good you are.
