The Book Of John In SongSample
John 21
Jesus’ conversation with Peter reminds us He desires that we never give up on His plan and calling for our lives, even if we have experienced great failure or have denied Him.
Jesus’ forgiveness of Peter and Peter’s reinstatement as a trusted, beloved disciple places a fresh calling on his life -- to live a life of significant service in God’s Kingdom despite his denial. No matter our past, Jesus can redeem it, and that redemption can lead to an amazing future of love and impact for the Kingdom of God.
In addition to moving beyond our failures by God’s grace, Jesus’ challenge to go and feed His sheep is ours as well -- to see our love for Jesus as the motivation for serving those who follow and who are yet to follow Him. Jesus is inviting Peter to powerful acts of grace and invites us to the same. Indeed, if we just continue reading the New Testament account, we witness Peter actually becoming a spiritual leader of the early church, feeding Jesus’ sheep, until finally, Peter is martyred for the sake of the Jesus he loved.
PRAYER
Jesus, please expand my capacity to love you and those you love. I will not allow my past to limit the future you have called me to. May I care for, love, and serve others as you do. I will go and feed your lambs … I will go and feed your sheep. Amen.
