The Book Of John In SongSample
John 17
Growing up as a Korean American, I learned how to navigate cultural differences. Intellectuals argue that education about diversity would heighten our ability to understand and love one another. While this is important, we know it will not suffice. The world loves the ideology of unity, but doesn’t know how to achieve it.
How can we forgive a spouse who has deeply wronged the sacred pledge of marriage? How can we love the errant child lost in addiction, or the parent who simply walked away?
Oneness comes from God. It cannot be generated by human will; we will fall short. Jesus is praying to the Father above that HE will make us one. Oneness comes from the fact that we are clothed in His holiness, not our own, and therefore we can be drawn into His unity. We are longing to see and know the love of God that is at work in others and in ourselves, and ultimately fulfilling the oneness that God desires.
PRAYER
Thank You Lord for Your grace that covers us. Though our differences try to pull us apart, it is Your love and grace that binds us together. May we live in Your unity today we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
