Reading the Bible in Historical Sequence Part 10

31 ၏ နေ့ 27

Sunset on Saturday starts the tenth day of Nisan which begins the most important week in history. On this day the paschal lambs are chosen (Exodus 12:3). Mary anoints Jesus’ feet and in the morning of Sunday March 29 AD 33 He rides into Jerusalem and the people acclaim Him King. On Monday He curses a fig tree and clears the Temple.

Note: This day (Sunday) begins the week which follows the type (or prototype) set out in Exodus 12 when God told Moses that each family must choose an unblemished lamb on the tenth day of Nisan (see Appendix E: The Passover Pattern of Crucifixion Week). On this day Jesus was ‘chosen’ by the people as ‘the King of Israel’ (John 12:13) but appointed by His Father as ‘the Lamb’ (John 1:29). The dating of this Sunday is in accordance with the angel’s message to Daniel. The 69 weeks of Daniel 9:25 = 69 x 7 prophetic years of 360 days = 173,880 days from Artaxerxes’ decree of March 5 444 BC (The Bible Knowledge Commentary). This gives March 29 AD 33 as the date on which the Messiah rode into Jerusalem (Annals of the World paragraph 6439). The Royal Observatory confirms this was a Sunday. The New Bible Dictionary, referring to some astronomers’ work implies this ride into Jerusalem was on the ninth day of Nisan but there was a one day difference of opinion between the Sadducees who ruled at this time and the Pharisees who ruled later when the gospels were being written.
