Samson’s life was full of moments of the power of God being displayed. In this instance, a lion attacked him and he tore the lion apart with his bare hands! The Bible says this was the work of the Holy Spirit in his life.

The exciting part is God promises to pour out His Spirit on all people. This means we can expect God to do amazing things in us and through us because His Holy Spirit gives us the power, love, and sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7) to do so.

Power includes the courage to share our faith, to pray for the sick so that they recover, and to ask God for miracles. Love is God giving us the ability to forgive those who hurt us, to reach out to the unlovable, and to have compassion on people who do not know Jesus. A sound mind is God giving us wisdom to make decisions, discipline our thoughts, and figure out what His will is. All of these are available to all believers because God gives us His Holy Spirit!

REFLECT

1. Which of these three manifestations of the Holy Spirit—power, love, and sound mind—do you need the most right now?
2. Did you ever feel that God could use other people but not you? How will this change knowing that God gives His Holy Spirit generously to all people?

RESPOND

1. Ask for the Holy Spirit to give you power, love, and sound mind to get through today. Make it a daily habit of always asking God for His Spirit to empower you.
2. Share your faith boldly with someone today. Do not be afraid of the result; leave it up to God!
