Jesus Our SaviourMuestra
After encountering Jesus on his way to stop the spread of the early church, Saul the feared persecutor of Christians became Paul the passionate evangelist, traveling and preaching the good news of Jesus. Once, Paul and his friend Silas were put into prison for spreading the good news about Jesus. They were put into chains and locked in a cell with a guard by the door.
That night Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises to God. Even though they were in prison, they were free on the inside because they had forgiveness from Jesus. They raised their voices and sang aloud. Suddenly there was a violent earthquake, the prison doors flew open, and their chains came loose. They were free!
The guard who had been watching the door wanted to know how he could be free on the inside, too. He asked Paul and Silas, “What must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” That night the guard’s whole family heard the good news about Jesus and were saved.
Paul went on to start many churches and spent a lot of his time encouraging and instructing them how to stay on course, both in person and through the letters he would write to them. These letters of encouragement and correction became part of the New Testament we hold in our hands today.
In his letter to the churches in Rome, Paul says we are no longer captive to sin and death; we are free! There’s no need to fight and strive to receive forgiveness. It’s a free gift that Jesus has given to us. No matter what our circumstances are, we can be free on the inside, knowing that because of Him we are free! No matter what we face, we can sing with voices of freedom like Paul and Silas did. I believe in forgiveness through Jesus.
