Dedicating Our Children to God
1 Samuel 1:10-11, 27-28
“In bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed to the Lord. And she made a vow, saying, ‘O Lord Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life…I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord...”
When we bring our sorrow and bitterness to God in surrender, he is able to transform the pain in the womb of intercession and conceive life. Samuel was the fruit of a vow before God after Hannah shifted her focus from her own painful circumstances to God’s glory and purposes. When we dedicate our children to God at their conception and birth, we acknowledge that life comes from God, and every human spirit will return to God.
How many parents dedicate their children to God, but then abdicate their responsibility to teach their children God’s ways and Word?
More importantly, as parents we can influence our children to fulfill our plan for their lives rather than God’s plan.
Will we release them for their whole lives to the purposes of God for their lives?
Will we follow through on our prayers of dedication?
Lord Jesus, thank you for the children you have entrusted to us. I give them back to you for your kingdom purposes and glory.
