Strength in Weakness
1 Samuel 13”7-8, 14
“…Saul remained at Gilgal, and all the troops with him were quaking with fear…but Samuel did not come to Gilgal…‘now your kingdom will not endure…’”
2 Corinthians 12:9
“…My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness…”
God deliberately tested Saul’s heart at the beginning of his leadership journey to see if Saul would fully rely on the Lord, or on himself. Because of his impatience, Saul failed the test. He would rather sacrifice and fulfill the religious obligations, than obey the voice of the Lord. He later failed the make-up test on the principle of obedience (1 Samuel 15), because he was unwilling to appear weak before his men. Weakness becomes our enemy when we rely on our own strength. However, weakness is the key to exposing our hearts and our need for God’s grace and enabling power.
Will we humble ourselves and call out to God in our weakness and need?
Will we rely on God’s grace and not our own strength?
Lord Jesus, you are my strength. I repent of self-reliance and pride, and I humble myself before you. Your grace is enough for me. Thank you, Jesus.
