DAY 105 OF 365

Be Strong in the Lord

1 Samuel 17:38-39
“Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. ‘I cannot go in these,’ he said to Saul, ‘because I am not used to them.’ So he took them off.”

While David was not experienced in field warfare, he was courageous. His killing of a bear and a lion to defend the sheep had taught him that no enemy was too great for the anointing of the Spirit and the strength that God gave him. When David rejected Saul’s armor, he avoided the trap of copying other leaders in fear and of relying on methods and strategies, rather than on the Lord. David had found his strength in the Lord. God gives ministry strategies to each of his servants, strategies that are fit to our unique gifting and personality. We don’t need to copy each other. Wearing another man’s armor rather than the armor of the Lord is a dangerous thing. Ephesians 6 reminds us to be strong in the Lord and to put on the full armor of God. David understood and practiced this principle and his victories are still being talked about today.

Lord Jesus, lead me into your battles, with your weapons, fought in your way, for your glory.
