Follow Me
Matthew 4:19-22
“‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men.’ At once they left their nets and followed him…he saw two other brothers…They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.”
To be a Christian is to be a Christ follower -a follower of Christ, who acts and lives like Christ. It’s easy to make entry into Christ’s kingdom through salvation, the focus of Christianity; however, salvation is just the beginning. Learning to live like Christ and join his mission is for the rest of our lives. Fishing for men, like Christ, is a lifelong apprenticeship. We can’t fish for ourselves and fish for men/women with Christ at the same time.
Who are we going to follow?
To fish for men requires leaving self-centered priorities and gaining a new focus on loving others as Christ did. Everything becomes new when we follow Jesus through all of life.
What are we waiting for?
Lord Jesus, I will follow you all my life. Teach me your ways and how to serve most effectively in your mission.
