DAY 95 OF 365

Almighty God

Ruth 1:20-21
“‘Don’t call me Naomi,’ she told them. ‘Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter…the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me.’”

Naomi knew the name of God as El Shaddai, the Almighty. This was the name he had revealed to Abraham when he promised him a son at age ninety-nine, after first giving the promise to him when he was seventy-five years old. The Almighty does not conform to our timelines and ways, we conform to his. Naomi knew the promises of El Shaddai to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, but she didn’t know it for herself. She had told her Moabite daughter-in-law about El Shaddai, and Ruth became God’s messenger to Naomi about the reality of God’s forgiveness, protection and provision. Naomi knew the words of Moses, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty…” (Psalm 91:1) however, she needed to experience these words as a reality in her own life. There are many bitter Christians today who know the names of God, but not the reality of what these mean in their lives. Perhaps we can be the testimony of God’s provision and protection that they are looking for.

Lord God Almighty, you are my shelter and rest this day; your provision overwhelms me with gratitude.
