God’s Will and Our Will
Matthew 23:37
“…how often I longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing…”
Matthew 24:14
“…this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations…”
It is God’s will that all should hear the gospel of the kingdom and be given an opportunity to respond. Every nation will hear the gospel - the testimony of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, and the offer of salvation to all who believe. However, the Father has also given his creation free will to respond to that gospel. Jerusalem was not willing to respond to Jesus’ gospel of the kingdom. Like chicks that run away from their mother and suffer mortal danger, the people of Jerusalem rejected their king. Many repented after the resurrection of Jesus and joined the early church. However, the Father’s will that they should hear the gospel still gave them the freedom to exercise their will in responding. There is no other way in love.
