The Gospel Path – First to Last
Romans 1:16, 17
“I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’”
The righteousness or right standing with God, which we receive by faith in Jesus Christ, is from first to last. We first received this righteousness by faith when we first surrendered our lives to Jesus and trusted in his righteousness for salvation. The temptation as we move along in our Christian experience is to begin to trust in our efforts, our own righteousness as the years go by. However, the power of the gospel must be experienced from first to last in our faith journey. The last lap of this race is as important as the first. The path is the gospel from first to last.
Jesus, you are my righteousness. I surrender my life and will to you again today and receive your grace and power and righteousness by faith, to live through me for your glory.
