At the end of every week, we'll give you a challenge—something to try that might be outside your regular routine. Each challenge is designed to help you develop one important spiritual habit. This week, it's...
SPEND TIME WITH OTHERS
The people in our lives can have a big impact on our faith—and we can have a big impact on other people's faith, too. But that doesn't happen by accident. Today's challenge will help you connect with at least one other person in a way that helps you (or maybe even both of you) grow!
CHALLENGE
There are hurting people everywhere—even in your community. Those who are sick, elderly, or underserved often need a reminder of God's hope. For this challenge, get together with a few friends and look for a way to encourage those around you experiencing physical pain or suffering. Consider volunteering at a hospital, recovery center, or senior living facility. Here are some ideas to get you started wherever you go...
- SHOW UP. The simple act of being present can go a long way. Sitting with someone in their sadness, playing Uno to help pass the time in the hospital, or working alongside someone can be powerful.
- ASK QUESTIONS. People desire to be known. Showing interest in someone's life allows them to reflect on where they've been and maybe even become open to God's hope.
- LISTEN. Practice active listening by asking follow-up questions and resisting the urge to offer advice or compare their experiences to yours. Try saying things like, "Thank you for sharing that with me," and, "Your story matters."

An amusement park ride can spark joy or leave you feeling scared. This can be true in life, too, so how can we learn to overcome our feelings of fear whenever we experience them? In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we'll look at stories from the Bible, where people trusted God in difficult moments and see how God is with us in every situation.
