A Word For Tough Times

When you look at the book of Proverbs, it’s very easy to go to the ‘fun’ verses, or the ones that warn you about people you know and you might have a little giggle about it.

But times are tough. What does this treasure trove of wisdom say about tough times? I found Proverbs 18:10. Not the final word in Proverbs about tough times, but the one that stood out to me, and, pointed me to Jesus.

This verse encapsulates a profound spiritual truth that points to Jesus as our Saviour, Shepherd, Teacher, and Refuge and Strength. Jesus is the solution. He embodies the ultimate refuge and safety for us. He is the Good Shepherd who protects and guides us, His flock. We can seek and find safety in Him. Just as a strong tower provides shelter from external threats, the name of the Lord, Jesus, offers sanctuary from life’s challenges, sin, and the trials of this world.

Jesus repeatedly emphasises the importance of faith and trust in Him. He invites us all to seek solace and salvation in Him. Jesus is our strong tower for safety in times of trouble.

Proverbs 18:10 points to Jesus as the ultimate source of security, emphasising that, by placing our trust in Him, we can find refuge, protection and salvation in the face of life’s storms and challenges. This droplet of wisdom reminds us of the unshakable safety that comes from a deep relationship with Jesus Christ. Who are you running to when times are tough?
