Fruit of the Spirit

It’s true that we become like the people we spend time with. You could spend a whole lot of time with people who are negative, spread rumours, gossip, complain and cause trouble. Pretty soon, no matter how hard you try, you’d end up being the same. We become just like the people we follow. When we choose to follow Jesus, we want to become more like Him!

Spend time with Jesus, read God’s word, pray and learn. Your thinking will be transformed, your life filled with God’s Spirit and you’ll be someone who produces good fruit!

When we follow Jesus we take on a whole new way of living, we leave behind our old ways of life, a life that produced only bad fruit.

Let’s look at the last fruit of the spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23, ‘self-control’. Self-control is thinking before you act. A person without self-control reacts to everything that happens around them without thinking. They might fly off the handle, get angry, be fearful, sulk or be unkind. Our ‘self’ can get us into a lot of trouble if we don’t keep it under control and submit to God. A person with self-control stops, thinks, and uses God’s wisdom to respond in the right way.

God gives us the fruit of the Spirit to help us live our life with Jesus.
