Fruit of the Spirit

If you look at a tree it’s hard to tell what kind it is just by looking at the leaves. It’s much easier to tell if it’s an apple tree or pear tree by looking at its fruit! So how can you tell if a person is like a good tree or a bad tree? By looking at the fruit their life produces.

Is a person’s life full of anger, negativity, grumbling and complaining? Is the fruit of their life selfishness, mean-spirited actions and empty friendships? Or is the fruit of a person’s life good? Great friendships, kind words, caring actions and joy!

A bad tree can’t produce good fruit. A pear tree can’t produce coconuts and a banana tree can’t produce apples! A good tree produces good fruit. We produce good fruit when we have God’s Spirit working within us. A life with Jesus produces good fruit in our lives.

Let’s look at the fruit of ‘faithfulness’. Faithfulness is keeping to what we say we will do. A faithful person is steadfast and reliable. Faithfulness means commitment for the long haul, not just a firework of action for one time only. Faithfulness matters in the little things and the big things.

The fruit of God’s Spirit in us is faithfulness.
