Real Hope: Armour of GodÀpẹrẹ
God Is With Us
Paul loved a good analogy. The theme this week explores Paul’s analogy of the ‘armour of God’ and, in this devotion, what Paul means when he says to put on the ‘helmet of salvation’.
Salvation is so multi-layered it is difficult to explore all that it encompasses in such few words; however, in Baker’s Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology we discover this summary: ‘The objective basis and means of salvation is God’s sovereign and gracious choice to be “God with us” in the person of Jesus Christ, who is described as both author and mediator of salvation.’ Salvation is so big and broad and profound, but, simply put, it’s all about God’s plan to draw us back to Himself. In this verse, Paul is asking us to take hold of the truths held in the concept of salvation and be intentional about living out those truths every day.
But why a helmet? Roman helmets often served two purposes during battle. The first was as a protection from the weapons of the enemy and the second as a form of identification. Taking time to remember the significance of salvation, every single day, and to allow the truth that ‘God is with us’ to become a shield of protection for our hearts and minds is an essential part of our daily walk with Jesus. It is not enough to know that God is with us – we must take hold of that truth and allow it to transform us.
As believers we carry His Spirit with us wherever we go. It acts like a beacon telling everyone who and whose we are. The ‘helmet of salvation’ both protects us from the enemy and uniquely identifies us as His. What an amazing gift as we walk this journey.

Life sometimes doesn’t go to plan. Sometimes it feels like the world is falling down around us. This can be used by the enemy to steer us off course. This plan looks at the armour of God and how we can stand firm in the battle. How we can hold true to all the promises of God and who He is, knowing He has already led us to victory.
