God commanded Joshua to erect two stone pillars when Israel crossed the Jordan.

The first pillar was 12 stones picked up from the river bed as a reminder that 12 tribes of Israel passed through on dry land. We who were once under the river of death are also pillars.  

Our lives, like the stones rescued from the Jordan, point back to God and how He saved us.

The second pillar was erected in the Jordan riverbed beside the priests who carried the Ark. 

This is a reminder that Jesus took our place. He bore our sins, and His work is perfect, complete, and permanent.
