“When It’s Time to Let Go and Let God”

We can’t satisfy our thirst from drinking a half-full glass. We can’t satisfy our hunger when we finish a plate of leftovers. What we need is an overflowing source, a complete source, of joy, contentment, and security which we won’t find in anyone or in anything in this world but in God alone.

So I want to encourage you to look up and look forward. There is a hopeful future ahead of you. This pain does not define you or your future. It does not make you who you are. Soon, you’ll look back and laugh at the thought of having to ruin (or take) your own life (or someone else’s). Soon, you’ll look back and say, “God, thank You for not giving up on me. If not for Your persistence and patience, Your grace and Your love, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

The road’s not easy but you’re not alone in this journey. God is with you and He has placed certain people in your life who will also be walking with you. You’ll be facing more trials in this life, but know that all your heartaches are but for a moment. Also know that as you overcome one testing after the other, you will come out tougher, which will make you ready to face a lot more, until that day when there will be no more tears, no more pain, and no more suffering.

Cry and grieve. Take all the time you need but do not stop there. Do not let anger and bitterness take root in your heart. I pray that God will give you the grace and the courage to forgive those who have caused you this pain. It will take a lot of humility and strength to forgive those who we think do not deserve it. But if we believe that God loves us, and He has forgiven all of our sins, what gives us the right to withhold forgiveness from others?

It’s difficult to forgive a person who has deeply hurt us. However, God calls us, His children, to be like Christ, who is loving, enduring, patient, and forgiving. Surrender everything to Him. Everything, including the pain, and the anger. Trust His heart. He knows what’s best for you. “You can let go now…”
