“How Do You Move On?”

You may be less broken than others or worse. Both way, you still are and that’s okay. God does not turn away from the brokenhearted. In fact, He is close to them and He heals all their wounds. I want to discourage and encourage you right now.

I want to discourage you from doing things that will bring harm to you and to others. Inflicting more pain to yourself or avenging the damage will not do you any good. Alcohol, drugs, sex, suicidal thoughts, isolation, and rebellion, among other things – it may feel good at the moment but all these cannot restore you. These options will just lure you deeper into the pit where you’ve fallen.

Do not ever say that you are worthless. Do not ever say that you are good for nothing. In God’s sight, you are precious. In His sight, you are loved. In His sight, you are beautiful and you are worth dying for.

I also want to discourage you from seeking wholeness and completeness in a thing or in a person. Be it from a newly discovered hobby or from a guy/girl (best) friend, who you think is worth the shot just because you’re hurting and you need to be reassured.

It’s not going to work. That hobby’s temporary (and it won’t love you back). That guy/girl (best) friend, well, he/she’s pretty broken, too (whether he/she will admit it or not). It’s going to be hard when two broken people try to fix each other.

It’ll take some time for it to work or it may not work at all. As cliché as this may sound, you cannot give what you do not have. So you can’t really expect to receive love and comfort from someone who also needs love and comfort. You can’t share your “everything” when you’re barely complete. Instead of doing the fixing, you just might end up hurting each other, making things worse than they already are.
