Faith vs Fear

DAY 7 OF 7

About ten years ago, I felt God calling me into full-time ministry. At that point, I had been a songwriter and worship leader for over 15 years, but I had always balanced ministry with a full-time job.

Though pursuing ministry full-time was a lifelong dream, I also had some reservations. For one thing, Jenny and I were planning to get married, and I was scared that without the certainty of a monthly salary, our brand-new family would be off to a rough start.

But I felt God pulling on the strings of my heart, so I decided to take a leap of faith and trust that:

"The One who calls me is faithful, and He will do it.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:24

Faith and fear coincide when God asks us to do something outside our comfort zone.

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.

When God called Moses to bring the Israelites out of Egypt (Exodus 3), Moses had a similar reaction to mine. He started to list all his fears: “What am I going to say to them?” " What if they don’t believe me?” “I am a stutterer.” Moses ultimately decided to have faith, and the rest is history.

Fear says “what if”. Faith says “even if”.

A powerful example of “even if” kind of faith is found in Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who were about to be thrown into a fiery furnace for refusing to bow down to an idol (Daniel 3). They said:

“We know that the God we serve is able to save us, but even if He doesn’t, we will not worship any other Gods.” - Daniel 3:18

My friend, is God calling you to step out of your comfort zone today?

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
