7 Powerful Prayers for Your Kids

DAY 4 OF 7

Prayer for Godly Friends

When our kids are little, we get to be the center of their universe. As they grow into tweens and teens (and the eye-rolling and sighing commences), their friends often take our place.

This is why praying for our kids to have healthy, godly friendships is critical.

Whether our kids are leaders or followers, popular or wallflowers, in the smarty-pants crew or barely hanging onto passing grades, they need friends who are going to encourage them and prop them up when things get hard.

They also need friends who make good choices, love Jesus, and are compassionate.

Praying parents make all the difference in their kids' lives. We can pray against the enemy to use their friends to entice them to make poor decisions. Praying for their friends to know and love Jesus means our kids don't have to be the only ones in their circles who know God.

Positivity and negativity are contagious, so we want God's goodness to rub off on our kids through lifelong, lasting, godly friendships.

This starts at home with our fervent prayers.

To have a good friend, we must first be a good friend. Modeling the Golden Rule for them in our grownup relationships and with them will teach the importance of doing unto others as we would like them to do to us (Luke 6:31).

As we teach this, we better ensure that we are walking with the wise within our own friendships and relationships, which also helps us be wise (Proverbs 13:20).

Friendships are connection and community—vital for growth and sharpening. Praying over your kids' friends and future relationships can make the difference in their sphere of influence. We want God to be the center of that influence.

Our prayers matter, friends!

Prayer for Friendships: Thank you, God, for being a friend to us and showing us what that looks like so we can teach our children. Please bring real, true friends who will stick closer than brothers and sisters into __________'s life. Thank you for friends who are wise and mature beyond their years and keep foolish friends far from them. Let my children be good friends as well, treating others as they want to be treated like it says in Luke 6:31. Thank you for the strong bond of godly friendships in their lives. In Jesus' name, amen.
