7 Powerful Prayers for Your KidsНамуна
Prayer for My Kids to Serve the Lord
This reading plan is meant to be a stepping stone into praying daily for your children.
Being a parent is hard! It's the most challenging job we will ever have, but with the Lord's help, we can prepare our children for their purpose in the Kingdom. Parents' prayers are powerful!
Our job as parents isn't just to keep our kids alive until they leave our house at 18. Our job is to help launch them into a relationship with the Lord and their unique purposes. This isn't something that happens overnight.
Maybe you have small children and don't know how to start praying for them. Perhaps your kids are now teenagers, and you can see they will probably leave the nest before you're ready. Maybe you even have adult children--it's never too late, and it's never too early to start praying for your kids!
Praying God's promises over them is powerful!
We all want our children to serve the Lord all the days of their lives. So, we should be covering our children in prayer all the days of our lives. Be intentional, friends! If we want them to walk with the Lord, let's pray them into purpose, protection, peace, and all the other good things the Lord has for them.
Psalm 1:1-3 is an excellent passage to start speaking over your kids, no matter what age they are:
Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. (NLT)
Action: Commit to praying over your kids every day. Consider texting another parent friend to help keep you accountable and offer to pray for their kids alongside yours.
Prayer for My Children to Serve the Lord: Father God, I humbly invite you into every facet of my relationship with ____________. Please help me to be intentional about praying for my kids. Holy Spirit, nudge me as I learn to make this my daily habit. God, thank you for the promise that if I start my children off on the way they should go, they won't turn away from it when they are older (Proverbs 22:6). And if I'm starting late, thank you for Acts 16:31 that says, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household." I believe all your promises are not just for me but for my children as well. Please teach me how to model meditating on your Word day and night, and let each of us be like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit in every season as it says in the Psalms. Let ____________ serve and love you all the days of their lives and be a blessing to your Kingdom. I love you, and I trust you with my kids. In Jesus' name, amen.
