Prayer for Protection
Trusting the Lord with our children is probably one of the hardest things we must do. But it gets a little easier once we realize that He loves them even more than we do.
When they are little, our kids need us to protect them from everything: sticking their fingers in light sockets, going swimming, choking. Then they grow some, and we worry about them finding the right friends, strangers on the internet, and bullying at school.
As a parent, we can easily be overwhelmed by anxiety for our children's safety. That is why entrusting them to the Lord and his plans is essential. God's Word has many verses about protection in it. What a relief!
The Psalms contain many of God's great promises that we can pray over our children. Look at Psalm 17:6-8:
I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. By your mighty power you rescue those who seek refuge from their enemies. Guard me as you would guard your own eyes. Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
Another excellent passage to pray over our kids daily for protection is Psalm 91. God's word contains so much power!
By consistently speaking the word of God over our children, things cannot remain the same.
Prayer for Protection: Almighty God, thank you for the blessing of these children in my life. Please show me how to steward my time with them wisely. Let them rest under your feathers as they grow and move about in the world. Thank you that just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, you surround ___________, both now and forever. When I or my kids start to worry or get scared, remind us that we don't have to be afraid because you are with us. You strengthen us, help us, and hold us up with your righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10). Thank you that the name of the Lord is a strong fortress, and we can run to you and be safe (Proverbs 18:10). You alone are our refuge and place of safety, and we trust you! (Psalm 91) In Jesus' name, amen.
