DAY 30 OF 86

JOSHUA 1:
Yesterday in the conclusion of Deuteronomy, Moses blessed eleven of the twelve tribes with a prophetic blessing. And then Moses climbed up to the top of Mount Pisgah. After viewing the Promised Land, he died and the Lord buried him in an unknown location in Moab.

Now we turn to Joshua, the book named after the man God chose as Moses’ successor. In this book we see the victory of the Chosen People in conquering the Promised Land (chapters 1-12) and then the occupation of the Promised Land (chapters 13-24). Three times in Deuteronomy 31, we find the charge, “Be determined and confident,” and that command is repeated to Joshua in the beginning of this book.

PSALM 68a:
Today we read the first half of Psalm 68. The beautiful song of praise is filled with poetic imagery celebrating the victories God gives his people. So this song is very appropriate for us to read as a preface to the book of Joshua. This starts with the words that Moses spoke whenever the Ark of the Covenant was moved. Paul quotes from v18 and 20 in Ephesians 4.

ACTS 19b:
In yesterday’s reading in Acts, Apollos was introduced. And Paul returned to Ephesus and had a very fruitful ministry there for three years. The Lord blessed Paul’s ministry there with many notable miracles.

Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father, together with my listener I pray that You would remove any barriers to understanding in our lives, so that the LIGHT of your Word can brightly shine into our hearts. O Holy Spirit, be with us to illuminate the Scriptures we read today. Lord Jesus, please be near us today, just like You have promised to be with us always. And may all the nations praise You, O God.
