Horizon Church December Bible Reading Plan - Christmas Advent: Jesus, ComeSample
Light of the World, Come
Though bright and luminous, the moon does not produce its own light. It shines by reflecting the light of the sun. In the same way, God’s people cannot produce any light on their own. Since the fall of Adam, every human heart and mind has been darkened by sin. We are blind to God’s goodness, like those sitting in the darkness of prison, desperately grasping for light (Isaiah 42:7).
I remember the darkness before Jesus shone the light of God’s love into my heart—the uncertainty, frustration, and hopelessness that sin and brokenness bring. Yet the One who created light came into the world to be a light to us (John 1:9). He declared, “I am the Light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in darkness but will have the Light of Life” (John 8:12).
Jesus came to guide us out of darkness into His kingdom of marvellous light. He invites us to follow Him as He illuminates our path. As the source of our light, we reflect His brightness. During this season of Christmas lights and decorations, let us remember that we are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14).
Even when we experience sorrow and challenges, we know that joy comes in the morning. Because Christ came into this dark world with His glorious light, we have everlasting and sure hope.
About this Plan
Throughout history, humanity has longed for a Saviour. From the very beginning, the Old Testament reflects a deep ache for restoration. This Advent season, we’ll explore the anticipation of Jesus, the Messiah, who fulfilled every promise. Let’s prepare our hearts to celebrate His birth and express our longing for His return, embracing this season of hope and invitation.
