Extended Memorization Of Scripture: 2 PeterSample
In this epistle, the Apostle Peter will be getting us ready for the end of our lives and the end of the world. He will seek to prepare us to live in such a way that we will receive a rich welcome into heaven when we die. He will speak to us of the radical changes the gospel will make in the heart and life of all who truly trust in Christ. It will urge us to “make our calling and election sure” by growing in Christlikeness through intense effort and by the power of the Spirit. It will put our faith on the solid foundation of the inerrant and unchanging word of God. It will warn us of the deadly danger of false teachers and will speak of the terrors that await them for perverting the truth of the gospel. It will teach us to identify who those false teachers are by how they live.
Finally, this epistle will prepare us for the coming day of the Lord—the second coming of Christ and the New Heaven and New Earth that will follow Christ’s return. In vivid terms, Peter will get us ready to see ahead of time by faith what that new universe will be like, and to live accordingly—lives of growing holiness and fruitfulness through faith in Jesus Christ.
