Bible Reflections From Scripture Union Volume OneSample
The Promised Deliverer
Read Micah 5:1-15
"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." Micah 5:2
God promises that in the midst of chaos and destruction, He will provide a promised Ruler from Bethlehem. The prophecy was fulfilled with the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Messiah will shepherd and rule His people in the strength and majesty of God. Jesus will be our peace and there will be no more war or destruction. God Himself will fight our battles and subdue all our enemies represented here by the invading Assyrians.
The world is hurtling towards destruction because of mankind’s wrong doings and excesses. This is the majority view of sociologists, conservationists, scientists, philosophers and eminent statesmen. This makes it even more urgent that a Ruler be sent from God to intervene on mankind’s behalf to save us from destruction. The One who is qualified to be the Ruler and Deliverer has been promised by God Himself. God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, the Lord Jesus to be born of the human race to come as our Saviour and Messiah King.
He will rule and reign in righteousness and peace. Jesus Himself shall be our Peace.
Jesus will deliver us from all our enemies. He will fight on our behalf. He will utterly destroy those who oppose Him and His church.
The enemies we face today may not necessarily be physical foes but powers of darkness and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms who employ their agents and cohorts to create havoc in the world. God’s promise is that the Lord Jesus will tear down strongholds of Satan, destroy witchcraft, idolatry and rebellion and cause the people to return to Him. God is merciful and compassionate. He desires to save us.
Pray for family members and friends by name, that they will respond to God’s gift of salvation.
Is there anything in my life that gives an opportunity for Satan to keep me under bondage and in defeat?
