DAY 48 OF 181

Be Thankful
Read Leviticus 2:1-16

Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High. Psalm 50:14

As parents, we teach our children from young to say ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ each time they ask for or receive something. We hope the training becomes part of their lives. It is indeed sad to know that many Malaysian graduates have forgotten their manners and having received, fail to repay their study loans.

The regulations of the grain offering comes after the burnt offering. It shows that God desires a person’s devotion and a spirit of thanksgiving as well. The main purpose of this offering is to thank God. His people need to learn that thanksgiving is an aspect of being holy. It is an antidote for pride and selfishness. The plant-based sacrifice will remind the people that their daily sustenance comes from God. Each year’s harvest is a token of God’s favour. For us Christians, our nourishment is Christ, the bread of heaven.

The grain offering can be of fine flour, cakes or wafers. In the preparation God prohibits the use of yeast and honey. Yeast signifies sin or negative influence, while honey is a product of wild life. God wants sincere thanks, not just sweet words of flattery. When our lives are rid of these additives, then we can feed the sheep of Jesus.

Only a handful of the grain offering is burned on the altar. The rest is given to the priests as their share. In this way God provided for His servants who ministered in the Tent of Meeting. What an encouragement to serve Him wholeheartedly for Jesus promises that ‘a worker deserves his wages’ (Luke 10:7).

Let us 'give thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ'.

What is the 'everything’ you can thank God for?
