What Does Jesus Offer?Sample

The True Vine
Over the past week, you’ve explored six of Jesus’s “I am” statements, each revealing who He is, why He came, and the kind of life He offers. He gives life, light, protection, provision, truth, and a way to be with God forever. Today, we look at His seventh and final statement:
“I am the true vine.”
This declaration takes us deeper into what it means to live in relationship with Him and what He calls His followers to do.
Reminder:
Take time to read today’s passage on your own or with a friend. Then, when you catch up this week—whether in person or on a call—share what stood out, reflect on your insights, and discuss how it connects to your life. Keep the conversation going!
As Jesus spoke these words, He was preparing His disciples for His death. After their final meal together, He continued to encourage them, using the metaphor of the vine and branches—a powerful image they would have recognized.
In the Old Testament, Israel was often symbolized as a vine—a people planted by God to reflect His goodness and justice. But throughout history, Israel had failed to fulfill this role. Now, Jesus declares Himself as the true vine—the perfect fulfilment of God’s plan.
By remaining connected to Him, like branches to a vine, His followers would bear the fruit of God’s love, justice, and transformation.
What Does This Mean?
This reveals something fundamental about what it means to follow Jesus. It’s not just about believing the right things or following a set of rules—it’s about a living, ongoing relationship with Him that transforms the heart.
Just as branches depend on a vine for life, Jesus’s followers depend on Him.
Without connection, branches wither and cannot produce fruit.
With connection, the life of Jesus flows through them, empowering them to reflect God’s love and character.
This is why Jesus emphasizes love as the defining mark of His followers. But this love isn’t shallow or self-serving—it’s sacrificial, modeled after His own life-giving love displayed on the cross.
The world often demands effort, achievement, and perfection to prove our worth. But Jesus offers something radically different—transformation from the inside out. Instead of striving to be “good enough,” He invites people into a relationship that produces lasting change—a new heart, new desires, and a life of purpose.

As you finish this devotional, you might still have lingering questions about Jesus—what He was like, what He did, or who He is. Wherever you are on this journey, know we’re here to support you. Explore more resources as you continue to seek and understand Him on a deeper level.
