What Does Jesus Offer?

DAY 6 OF 7

The Way, the Truth, and the Life

Today, we explore one of Jesus’s most definitive and potentially controversial statements:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

This declaration, found in John’s Gospel, summarizes who Jesus is, why He came, and what He offers to all who come to Him.

Reminder:

Take time to read today’s passage on your own or with a friend. Then, when you catch up this week—whether in person or on a call—share what stood out, reflect on your insights, and discuss how it connects to your life. Keep the conversation going!

These words were spoken by Jesus during His final meal with His disciples, just hours before His arrest and execution. Knowing what lay ahead, Jesus prepared His closest followers for His departure, telling them He was going away to prepare a place for them in His Father’s house.

But His disciples were confused and distressed. They had expected the Messiah to be a political or military leader who would restore Israel’s power—not someone who would suffer and die.

“Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
John 14:5

Thomas, one of Jesus’s disciples, voices this confusion. Jesus’s response is both profound and clear:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

With this statement, Jesus makes a bold claim: He is not just a guide to God or a teacher of spiritual truths—He is the way to God, the truth about God, and the source of divine life itself.

What Does This Mean?

As the Way, Jesus claims that the path to God isn’t through religion, rules, or personal achievement—it’s through a relationship with Him.

As the Truth, Jesus reveals the very nature of God. He and the Father are one, meaning that knowing Jesus is knowing God.

As the Life, Jesus offers not just existence, but fullness of life—both now and eternally. Through His death and resurrection, He invites anyone to experience true spiritual life.

An Open Invitation

For many, this claim feels exclusive—but Jesus’s invitation is for everyone. He doesn’t offer this life to a select few but to anyone willing to seek, trust, and follow Him.

Reflection Questions

  1. When you’re uncertain about life or searching for direction, where do you usually turn? Has that always given you the clarity or fulfillment you hoped for?
  2. If someone told you they were “the way, the truth, and the life,” how would you react? What makes Jesus’s claim different from other spiritual leaders?
  3. What’s one question you still have about Jesus after reading this passage? How could you explore it further?

We’ll see you tomorrow for the final day!
