What Does Jesus Offer?Sample

A note before we start: For the best experience, we recommend doing this Bible plan with a friend. Journeying together allows you to share insights, encourage each other, and discover more about Jesus along the way.
How to Get Started Together:
- Catch up weekly – Set a time each week to meet in person or hop on a call. Use this time to share and reflect on what you’ve read.
- Choose your style – You can either read the passages on your own and discuss them when you meet, or go through the plan together during your catch-up.
What to Do Each Time You Catch Up:
- Read – Take turns reading the passages together or on your own during the week.
- Retell – Summarize the story in your own words, focusing on the key details.
- Reflect – Share what stood out to you. What do these stories reveal about Jesus and the people involved?
- Relate – Discuss how these stories connect to your life or challenge your perceptions. Use the Reflection Questions to guide your conversation.
This simple rhythm makes it easy to stay connected, grow together, and dive deeper into what you’re learning.
The Bread of Life
When you meet someone, how do you introduce yourself? Statements like, “I’m a teacher,” or “I’m from New York,” reveal key aspects of your identity and passions. Similarly, Jesus made seven “I am” statements in the Gospel of John, offering profound metaphors to help us understand His identity, mission, and what He offers.
In John 6:25-36, Jesus declares, “I am the bread of life.” This conversation follows the miraculous feeding of 5,000 people, where He multiplied a few loaves and fish to satisfy a hungry crowd. The people, intrigued by this act, pursue Jesus, but He challenges their motives, revealing they seek Him for temporary physical sustenance. God had provided ‘manna’–bread that fell from heaven–to their ancestors in the desert and their hope was for a similar ongoing miracle.
However, Jesus redirects their focus, teaching that ordinary bread satisfies temporarily, but He offers something far greater—Himself as the “bread of life.” Through Him, their deeper hunger for spiritual fulfillment, joy, peace, and eternal life can be satisfied. He invites them to rely not on fleeting provisions but on the true nourishment found in a relationship with Him.
This teaching is still relevant today. In a world where people seek fulfillment in status, possessions, or achievements, Jesus offers sustenance that fully satisfies. Just as physical bread sustains the body, He nourishes the soul, providing eternal life and a deeper connection with God.
Reflection Questions
- Have you ever achieved something you thought would bring lasting satisfaction, only to find it wasn’t enough? What was that like?
- If Jesus was offering something beyond material needs—something deeper—what do you think that could be for you personally?
- If Jesus’ words were true—that He offers fulfillment beyond anything temporary—what difference would that make in your life?
Take time to reflect or discuss these questions with a friend, and we’ll see you tomorrow!
