Sermon on the Mount: The BeatitudesSample
Day 9:
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. - Matthew 5:5
Surrendering control to God
Walking in humility before others is a powerful way to reflect Christ’s love and character. Humility is not about thinking less of ourselves but thinking about ourselves less. It’s about valuing others above ourselves, as Philippians 2:3-4 instructs: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
True humility before others begins with recognizing that all we have—our abilities, gifts, and resources—comes from God. This understanding keeps us from becoming prideful or competitive. Instead, we acknowledge that we are part of a larger community where everyone has value and is called to serve, support, and encourage one another.
Walking in humility means being willing to admit when we are wrong, to apologize, and to seek reconciliation. It involves listening to others with an open heart, even when we disagree, and showing kindness and patience in our interactions. Humility creates space for healthy relationships, fostering trust and mutual respect.
By putting others before ourselves, we follow the example of Christ, who humbled Himself and served, even to the point of laying down His life for us. This humble posture allows God’s love to shine through us, drawing others closer to Him.

About this Plan
The Sermon on the Mount is one of the most incredible passages of scripture in the entire Bible. It is the longest passage of Jesus speaking without interruption. The Beatitudes, or attitudes of supreme blessing, are a roadmap for our lives, teaching us to reflect the nature of Jesus Christ in every interaction. Throughout this devotional, we will spend three days on each beatitude, ending with a focus on applying the entirety of it to our daily lives.
