Sermon on the Mount: The BeatitudesSample

Sermon on the Mount: The Beatitudes

DAY 8 OF 30

Day 8:

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. - Matthew 5:5

Surrendering Control

Surrendering to God's control is an act of faith that invites peace and transformation into our lives. It means releasing our desires, plans, and worries into His hands, trusting He knows what is best for us. Proverbs 16:9 says, “In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps,” reminding us that while we may have our ambitions, God ultimately guides our path.

Surrender is acknowledging that we are not in control, which requires humility. It involves recognizing that God’s wisdom far surpasses our own and that His plans for our lives are for our good, even when we don’t understand them. - Jeremiah 29:11. Surrender is not passive resignation but active trust, believing that God's ways are higher and better than ours.

In surrendering, we lay down our need for control, perfection, or certainty and instead rest in God’s sovereignty. It means allowing Him to shape our circumstances, decisions, and character, knowing He is faithful to lead us according to His purposes. This trust deepens our relationship with God, freeing us from anxiety and self-reliance and opening the door for His grace, strength, and guidance to flow into our lives.

Prayer focus:

Asking for a gentle, humble spirit modeled after Christ.

About this Plan

Sermon on the Mount: The Beatitudes

The Sermon on the Mount is one of the most incredible passages of scripture in the entire Bible. It is the longest passage of Jesus speaking without interruption. The Beatitudes, or attitudes of supreme blessing, are a roadmap for our lives, teaching us to reflect the nature of Jesus Christ in every interaction. Throughout this devotional, we will spend three days on each beatitude, ending with a focus on applying the entirety of it to our daily lives.
