Who’s The Greatest?- Day Four

When it comes to education, we naturally desire to be well-educated. In financial matters, our plan is to be well provided for. In relationships, we hope for abundance. As for our positions, the goal is often to achieve the highest honor. Wanting the best for ourselves is a legitimate aspiration, but Jesus imparts a lesson that challenges our conventional pursuits. The greatest, according to Jesus, is not the one in authority, not the one with a prominent position, nor the one recognized for high prestige. Instead, the greatest among us, as Jesus teaches, is the servant!

During Jesus' time, this message defied the prevailing mindset. While many sought a comprehensive education in Jewish law to secure a place in the Jewish government, Jesus introduced a different perspective. "Do not be called leaders," He said, "for One is your Leader." Jesus reminded us that true leadership and direction come from the Father, and according to Him, the leader is the servant. The one who serves emerges as the greatest among us. Earthly greatness may elude us, but in the Kingdom, it is the servant who is esteemed as great.

Jesus continues with a powerful statement, "Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled, and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted." This teaching runs counter to contemporary culture, where self-promotion is often encouraged. Nonetheless, Jesus urges us to humble ourselves, allowing Him to handle the exalting. Our responsibility is humility; exalting is God's job. However, when you try to take on God's job, He will take on yours! It's a straightforward lesson. If you've noticed areas in your life where self-promotion has overshadowed your role as a servant, seek the Lord today to reshape your perspective. The greatest leaders are the greatest servants and those recognized as the greatest leaders in the Kingdom are the greatest servants.

PRAYER

"Father God, I am grateful for the lesson on the significance of being a servant. Forgive me when my ambitions have overshadowed Your purpose for my life. May my actions as a leader shine even more brightly through my role as a servant. Guide me to serve in a manner that reflects Your example, allowing me to lead with integrity. In Jesus' name, amen.”
