Now Is The Time: Acts Children's JourneySample
Day 22
Talk to God
“Lord, please make me willing to do what You want.”
Read the Bible
Acts 21:27-40
Warning! Danger in Jerusalem! The warnings are found in the first part of this chapter. How will Paul respond?
Think About It
The Lord’s followers in Cyprus and Caesarea warned Paul that his life would be in danger if he returned to Jerusalem. He would be sure to face persecution. But Paul’s response was: “I am not only willing to be put in jail for the Lord Jesus, but I am even willing to die for Him in Jerusalem!” (verse 13b). Paul had a lot of courage! Paul’s bravery gave the followers of Christ in Caesarea courage, too. They prayed, “Lord, please make us willing to do what You want” (verse 14b). Do you have that kind of courage?
The warnings proved to be true. An angry mob attacked Paul. They planned to kill him! I’m sure Paul felt the pain of their words and fists. But he didn’t try to hurt them in return. Instead, after soldiers pulled him away from the angry mob, Paul asked if he could speak to the people. He still wanted them to know the truth about Jesus. Paul’s actions showed his inner strength. If you are a follower of the Lord Jesus, trust God to help you to be strong if faced with the pain of persecution.
Being a Christian does not mean that your life will be free from danger. Many Christians throughout the world today suffer persecution. How can you be strong if faced with the pain of persecution?
Persecute—to hurt or treat cruelly, especially because of the person’s beliefs.
Do Something About It
- Know that suffering does not take God by surprise. Read John 16:33. Jesus warned His followers that they will suffer in this world.
- Ask God to make you willing to do whatever He wants—even if it includes suffering. Remember—the Lord will be with you in every situation.
Paul already knew he would suffer for being a follower of Christ (See Acts 9:15, 16).
