The Old Testament in 10 DaysSample
As Spoken Gospel’s introduction helped us see, God’s kingdom was still being established in exile. Though Israel was conquered by kingdom after kingdom, God was still on the throne. This was proven when Jesus, the King of Kings, came to those in exile to bring them home. We live in a type of exile today. We still dwell in broken and corrupted nations like Babylon. But, no matter the exile, chaos, or hopelessness, Jesus is in control.
You can now continue to today’s reading where you will see one of the most famous examples of how to live in exile while trusting God. It’s the story of Daniel’s friends refusing to worship Babylon’s king and how God used their faith to show who was really on the throne. When you’re ready, the next day in the plan will return us to a familiar guide who will recap the whole story of the Old Testament for us on our final day together. Remember to visit the publisher page of this plan to explore more from the ministry partners and Bible guides being featured throughout this plan.
Waiting in Exile
Welcome back to “The Old Testament in 10 Days.” We are exploring the overarching story of the Old Testament while introducing you to trusted guides who are here to help you understand and love the Bible. Last time, The Bible Recap helped us see what happens when God’s people break the laws of God’s kingdom—they are removed from God’s land. Through the armies of Babylon, God exiled Israel from the promised land. And, for the most part, exile is where the story of the Old Testament ends.
Let’s revisit our friends at Spoken Gospel to help us get a picture of Israel’s exile, how God wanted them to persevere through it, and what that means for us. Spoken Gospel is on a mission to help you read the Bible the way Jesus taught us to read it — seeing how every single part of it is about him. Today, in their introduction to the book of Daniel, you will see that, despite what it looks like, God is in control. Even in exile, chaos, and hopelessness, God is still working out his plans to bring his kingdom to earth through his chosen people. Watch this.
