The Mystery RevealedSample
Day 20: Stacia Brundage, a Braveheart
Hebrews 2-3
In Hebrews 2, He is allowing us to grasp and believe the reality that not only are we the same family as Jesus, but specifically, the scripture tells us, “Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters” (2:11). Jesus, my brother! This has helped open my eyes (and heart) more clearly to the truth: God as “Father,” we have the same dad as Jesus! WILD!
Later in Hebrews 2, it reveals to us the time Jesus was made “a little lower than the angels” and the humanity He walked in here on earth. “He had to be made like them in every way, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful High Priest and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people” (2:17)
The impact and fresh soberness of the truth, God as Father and Jesus as High Priest from Hebrews 2 is what I mentioned needs to be kept in attention as you read a warning in Hebrews 3: “Do not harden your heart!”
“See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “today” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” (3:12-13)
Because we just read about what Jesus did and why He did it, it keeps us in remembrance. Remembering God as Father (sending His only son to die on the cross for our sins) and Jesus as High Priest (sitting at the throne of grace, atoning our sins and calling us righteous) helps to keep us from unbelief!
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for remembrance. Keep me in remembrance of who You are and what You did. Thank you that I get to look at the cross and, in a moment, remember Your humanity, knowing and seeing You as Father and High Priest. Keep me sobered to this to keep my heart from getting cold, stiff, or stuck in unbelief. Jesus, highlight any areas where I am holding onto unbelief or where I am not seeing You rightly! Help me bring them to the cross with this remembrance. I need You! I trust You! I love You!
