The Mystery RevealedSample
Day 23: Beth Guajardo, Executive Director of Communications + Development at UPPERROOM Dallas
Hebrews 7
Hebrews 7:18-19 says, "...the old requirement about the priesthood was set aside because it was weak and useless. For the law never made anything perfect. But now we have confidence in a better hope through which we draw near to God.”
In this chapter we see a stark contrast between the requirements of man through the law in the Old Testament, and the gift of salvation, being saved completely, in the New Testament. In the Old Testament, they needed a Priest who could act on behalf of men in relation to God. They would offer gifts and sacrifices for the people's sins. But with God's new covenant in the New Testament, Jesus offers himself as the sacrifice, becoming the guarantee of a better covenant. We have full access to the Father! We have a Great High Priest who lives forever, interceding on our behalf.
Hebrews says that He:
- Is able to save us completely
- Meets our every need
- Is holy, blameless, pure, and set apart
- Made perfect
Today, meditate on those characteristics of Jesus and the miracle that it is that He is our Great High Priest. He chose us. He came for us. And now we are reconciled to the Father through Him.
Prayer: Jesus, thank you for coming after me and saving me completely. Thank you that You are able, once and forever, to save those who come to the Father through You. Thank you that You are not far off, but You have drawn me near to Yourself and made me righteous before the Father. Holy Spirit, help me to stand confident in this better hope. Amen.
