Welcome back! How should you pray? Jesus answered that question for his closest followers in Matthew, Chapter 5. It’s called “The Lord’s Prayer”. It’s a great example for us as we study prayer. It simply and clearly informs us how to pray. It also reminds us of the important elements in prayer. Prayer is much more than merely telling God what we want. The Lord’s Prayer recognizes God’s greatness. It recognizes our need to surrender to God’s will as he meets our needs, forgives our sin and leads us away from temptation. Let’s turn to Matthew chapter 6, verse 5 through 13 right now.

Reflection:

This prayer begins by taking our eyes off of ourselves, and reminds us of how great God is as we “hallow” or revere him. It reminds us of the One to whom we are praying. Are there aspects of the Lord’s Prayer that should be your focus today? Recite the Lord’s Prayer and feel free to stop after certain phrases and pray more specifically.
