The American Bible Challenge Bible Study - Part 1Sample
We’re on day four of our study on forgiveness. We’ve examined the importance of confessing our sin to God, and today we’re going to read an example of King David’s heartfelt confession to God in Psalm 51. It was written soon after David was confronted with his own sin.
David had committed adultery with Bathsheba, and she became pregnant. David then tried to cover it up. After several attempts, he arranged for Bathsheba’s husband to be killed in battle.
When David was confronted with his actions, he wrote Psalm 51. It’s a helpful model for us as we confess our sin to God. We’ll focus on verses 10-13, but feel free to read the entire psalm.
Reflection:
Is there an area in your life where you disobeyed God recently and you need to confess it to him? Make David’s prayer your prayer. You can use it as an introduction to a more specific prayer about your own situation.
What words in Psalm 51 communicate David’s openness to God? Are there any phrases in David’s prayer that echo your desire? David wants to help others turn back to God. How do you think God can use your past to turn people back to God?
